OPUNTIA HUMIFUSA Interesting cactus, winter hardy in Ontario. Bears edible fruits (pears) having pleasant, sweet, somewhat acid taste. May be eaten raw or dried, first discarding thick skins and seeds. Prefers sandy soil. Difficult to germinate: may take two years.
