Notes: Use like black pepper, also in rye bread and other cooking. Also medicinal.

NIGELLA SATIVA. (Fennel flower; Russian or black caraway) The Indian condiment and spice kalonji commonly featured in Indian dhals. Equally at home in Russian rye bread, a staple even cosmonauts cannot do without! Aromatic black seeds resemble fennel in odour and taste something like peppery nutmeg. Seeds are pure serendipity in the kitchen: can be ground and used with near abandon like black pepper.
